Flag is for players in Kindergarten (ages 5/6). This 5-on-5 non-contact sport focuses on the FUNdamentals of football. Players are providesd the opportunity to learn the basics of football in a developmental environment. The main focus is on having fun and teaching fundamentals. Flag is a great way to introduce girls and boys to team sports in a caring atmosphere.
This is where the skills you learned in Flag are put to the test. From the beginner player to the advanced player, this is tackle football at its finest. We have all positions played: Offensive Line, Defensive Line, Quarterback, Receiver, Defensive Back, Linebacker and Running Back. Tackle is played in full pads with special emphasis placed on proper and safe ways of tackling, blocking and solid fundamentals. The player's grade level determines his/her TACKLE Division. All levels have guaranteed play time for every player in every game. Each level also has seven minute quarters.
Freshmen football includes all players grades 1-2. CLHYF aims to make these teams small with 12-14 players. Only eight players per team are on the modified 80 x 40 yard field with their coaches so the focus is on learning the basics of offense and defense. Freshman football does not have kicking special teams. The only weight limit in this division is for skill position players, which is 75 pounds maximum.
Junior Varsity is about transitions. The teams play on a full sized field with modified UIL rules. These teams are made up of combined 3rd and 4th graders. The only weight limit in this division is for skill position players, which is 100 pounds maximum.
Varsity is a combined team of 5th and 6th graders.. In order to prepare the players for middle school football, this division plays full UIL rules. The only weight limit in this division is for skill position players, which is 125 pounds maximum.
